Shelter Plus Care

SERVICES

Shelter Plus Care is a special program funded by grants made available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Clients of Shelter Plus Care are able to seek housing in specified areas within Butte County. The Housing Authority of the County of Butte provides a rental subsidy to landlords on behalf of the client. Participants will pay approximately 30% of their annual income towards rent and utilities.

WHO QUALIFIES?

Shelter Plus Care is a referral program, meaning that clients who wish to enroll in the program must be referred to the Housing Authority of the County of Butte by one of the various service agencies within Butte County. Potential clients must be homeless and disabled at the time of application. Agencies such as the Butte County Department of Behavioral Health and Community Action Agency, identify potential clients and act as case managers.

HOW DO I APPLY?

Potential clients should discuss this opportunity with their case managers. If a client feels that they meet the criteria of the Shelter Plus Care Program by being disabled and homeless, the client should contact one of the agencies listed below. Also, if a person is in a homeless shelter, emergency housing, or residential treatment, the client may meet the criteria of being homeless. These clients can be identified as possible Shelter Plus Care Program candidates.
